“Proverb” , 1995, mixed media on Japanese rice paper, 19”x24”; is based on an African wooden figure I bought in Ghana, West Africa, in 1994. The Proverb was explained to me. “Even if you cannot see, you can still hear.” Or “Use the gifts you have been given.” I tried to combine my interest in Asian imagery with the vivid colors and arrid heat of the tropical sun I experienced on my only visit to Africa.
